Being Too Christian?

I've been wondering recently if it is possible to become too Christian, and whether that is a bad thing or a good thing. I think I've come to the conclusion that you can't be too Christian but then there is, "Being too heavenly minded for any earthly purpose."

I've been pondering this because a friend of mine has recently began to show signs of being "too Christian". You literally cannot hold a conversation with him without being rebuked, preached at or asked awkward hard to understand spiritual questions. I'm not sure whether my reaction to this is normal, or whether it's the devil.

On one hand I'm thinking, "Awww not this again! Like come on! I only asked you about your coursework, how did this turn into a sermon?"

But on the other hand, "Ok this guy clearly is very keen in his faith. Yep so he is going to point out every wrong thing I'm doing, big or small. But that's good right? Isn't it? Maybe it's the devil telling me to be bored or annoyed at this on-going thing. Surely he's doing something I should be doing?"

Either way I'm not the only one put off by how he behaves, and we all claim to be Christians but he is still having that affect on us. It seems to me that he is too Christian for the 'Christians' and far too Christian for the non-Christians.

He is too heavenly minded for any earthly purpose, and by saying this I mean he is too caught up with heaven to be of any use on earth, he isn't approachable and his way of putting across his faith is very 'in your face' and he is always doing it.

Even as I'm typing I'm thinking, "Aww Jules your slating a Christian, one who clearly knows more about the Bible than you and one who is clearly more confident in his faith than you. The only reason your thinking this is because you don't understand the whole 'being a Christian' thing, your not taking it as seriously or as importantly as you should and your thoughts towards this guy are being controlled by sin."

I just can't seem to find a point of understanding towards him, his words and actions, and whether or not this is how I should be behaving.

A confused,
Jules

I'm not sure I would categorize someone who is always pointing out everyone's faults as being too heavenly minded. Full of conviction, maybe, but that seems a little odd to me.

In the context of the subject you brought up, I think it's plausibly possible. It would be a fault of ours to get to the point where we're useless in the world we live in. God has a plan to use us to reach others, so it's important to be constantly praying that He'll continue to make us "Heavenly minded earth dwellers", as my pastor recently put it...
